Rambling Observations

As promised, here is a picture of the new bike rider…

Funny story.  Louie was showing off for Mommy and Bupka tonight.  He was practicing two things really.  1. Riding, and 2. Turning Around. Yesterday we focused on riding in a straight line for the most part.  So the turning around part was new tonight. 

Okay, so Louie is riding down the street tonight, he gets about 4 houses down and during his ‘turn around’ he runs in to a problem, a rail road tie. Forward progress is halted.  Jenny takes off walking down the street to help him get started again and Bupka is wondering “why doesn’t he just kick off the ground and get going again.”  Umm, we haven’t taught him how yet.

So I’m like okay, “Louie, come hear. There’s one more thing you have to learn about riding a bike.”  He starts to turn around to come back to me and CRASH!  It looked painful, but there was no blood.  Whew!

I explain to him the intricacies of putting your foot on the ‘up’ pedal, making sure the pedal is leaning just slightly forward, and how to ‘push off the ground’ with the other foot (like riding a scooter). After the quick and simple tutorial I suggest that he try it himself.

First time, and he’s off!  Simple as that…

I think tomorrow he and I will go for a real bike ride around the island.

Matt…hmmm where to start.  He fell asleep on the way home from dinner tonight.  I carried him into the house and put him into bed while Jenny was getting started with Louie on his bike.

At some point Matt wakes up and decides he’s not really tired, and he wants to come out to ride with Louie.  After following Louie around, up and down the street, Matt decides he wants to NOT have his training wheels either.  Really it was Daddy’s fault for suggesting.  So we took Matt’s training wheels off tonight.  He hasn’t mastered the skill yet, but didn’t do bad with no training wheels, he too may get the hand of it before the end of this week.
